Abstract
The observed climate changes since 1900 have impacted forest ecosystems in France, particularly their growth and carbon storage capacity. We are studying the changes in the functioning of forests in France and the possibility of attributing these changes to human activity. This study examines three french forests using the GO+ model : Bilos (Gironde), Puéchabon (Hérault), and Tronçais (Allier). Their historical change from1901 to 2019 is reconstructed and simulated, then compared to their evolution in a climate unaffected by human activity. The study includes a sensitivity analysis of the model by modifying climatic variables at the three sites. The historical climate appears to be beneficial for the forests of Bilos and Puéchabon (improved growth and carbon storage in the biomass) but not for Tronçais, where the opposite is observed. An improvement of the representation of the tree hydraulic system in the GO+ code was also explored. It shows that accounting for vulnerability does not seemto alter the study’s conclusion regarding themaritime pine site.
