Abstract

This report is the presentation of an internship at Thales Research and Technology, from the 13/05/2024 to the 23/08/2024. The aim of the internship was to design and to set up a hydrodynamic test bench with fiber to understand the characteristic of the fiber as a pressure sensor. A Torricelli draining into a plane channel was constructed to observe the laminar/turbulent transition of a plan Poiseuille flow. The pipe outlet has been deformed during assembly, changing the shape of the flow. Several measurements and improvements were made to isolate the measurements form acoustic noise : a microphone has been added and foam has been installed in the tank. Repeatability of measurements was demonstrated and impact of temperature on the measurement was also found. In the end, the test bench measure numbers of things, but there is still analysis to be done to understand the fiber’s responses.
