Abstract
In this study, we investigate a theoretical turbine model known as the actuator disk. The objective is to numerically implement this model in a free software called Basilisk, a partial differential equation solver used to simulate the interaction between this model and a fluid flow. Next, we validate this implementation by comparing the flow dynamics obtained in the turbine’s wake with other numerical experiments from the scientific literature. We will show that in the case of a uniform flow, the results obtained are consistent with the expected outcomes. For a turbulent flow, we were not able to obtain correct results. The reason is related to the difficulty in generating an inlet turbulent flow that meets the required properties.
