Abstract

This work focuses on the mathematical modeling of the circular economy applied to smartphones, in particular on minimizing pollution emissions linked to their production cycle. In this context, the buy-back price of phones is a key lever for encouraging recycling and reconditioning. Two models have been developed : a “stationary” model, where flows are constant, and a dynamic model formulated as a Mixed Integer Linear Program, which tracks the evolution of quantities over time. The results obtained show that the circular economy, in particular through the adoption of a strictly positive optimal buy-back price, seems to reduce pollution and waste production resulting from smartphones compared with a linear economy.
