Abstract
The use of solar, solar with batteries, and wind energy in an island environment presents many challenges. Data collected from the power plants have highlighted these difficulties, as well as other technical issues. For example, dirt roads near the plants lead to the soiling of solar panels, which reduces production, though this impact remains limited. Enercal, the grid operator, must ensure the stability of the electrical grid, a particularly complex task in an island context due to the geographical dispersion of users and the low population density. These constraints are observable in the significant frequency and voltage variations recorded by the power plant sensors. Furthermore, tropical conditions, particularly high temperatures, affect battery efficiency. This phenomenon is highlighted with the accelerated degradation of performances. In New Caledonia, the installations are thus exposed to harsher constraints than in France.
