Abstract
To contribute to the decarbonization of aviation, AURA AERO is developing the Electric Regional Aircraft (ERA), scheduled for its maiden flight in 2026. This 19-seat hybrid-electric aircraft, with a maximum takeoff weight of 8,600 kg, features a distributed electric propulsion system with eight propellers to generate thrust. This internship represents the first aeroacoustic analysis conducted on the ERA. Given the early stages of design, the study employed only low-fidelity methods to evaluate the aircraft’s acoustic signature. A thorough literature review identified tonal noise from the propellers as the main noise component, leading to a focus on this aspect. Hanson’s model, an analytical solution based on Lighthill's analogy, was validated for assessing the noise of isolated propellers and was then used to estimate ERA’s propellers noise. Acoustic effects of interaction between adjacent propellers and interaction between propellers and the wing were discussed quantitatively. A first estimation of tonal noise from ERA’s propellers during take-off was calculated compared with certification requirements.
