Abstract

Hydraulic modeling, using HEC-RAS, allows visualization of flows at a given velocity and enables a quick, simple, and accurate evaluation of the impact of potential modifications on these flows. This project focuses on the Storåne River in Norway, where a hydroelectric power plant is located. The objective is to model, using HEC-RAS, the planned hydraulic structures (channels, weirs, etc.) proposed by the operating company and to analyze their effects on the river flow. The analysis relies, for example, on histograms of depth and velocity distributions, discharge tables, and maps showing drying-out areas. These data generally allow conclusions about the effectiveness of the modifications, although in some cases the dimensions of the structures have an important influence on the results.
