Abstract

Far-field drag analysis allows one to obtain a phenomenological breakdown of drag. Such analyses have been carried out successfully on steady flows yet work is still needed to achieve a drag breakdown formulation that is satisfactory for all unsteady flows. Toubin et al. [7] proposed a decomposition and it gave accurate results when applied to cases like a pitching airfoil or transonic buffet over an airfoil yet Nadal et al. [9] have shown that such a decomposition was not suited when applied to rotor configurations. This research project aims to replicate the study from Nadal et al. [9] on a simpler level, using an actuator-disk. Several meshes were created and a grid independence analysis was carried out yet no substantial results were obtained to move towards drag decomposition. This project is part of the GARTEUR AG27 working group.
