Abstract
Journal bearing thermo-hydrodynamic simulations were conducted to determine their viability for use as a main bearing for a wind turbine. The Reynolds equation for hydrodynamic lubrication was computed using finite difference method, and it was coupled to the energy equation to consider oil viscosity variation due to high temperature rises in case of high loads. The Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson (JFO) model was used to account for cavitation in the fluid film; and the effects of textured bearings with different groove patterns were analyzed.
