Abstract

To be able to release a missile or a bomb from a military aircraft, it is essential to ensure the pilot’s safety. To do so, the trajectory of the weapon during separation must be determined. This is preferably achieved through numerical simulations, which are considered cheaper than release flight tests or wind tunnel experiments, even though such tests remain necessary at certain stages of the aeromechanical integration process. The objective of my work over these two years was to establish a method to reduce the cost of numerical simulations by decoupling the weapon from the aircraft when computing the aerodynamic coefficients of the weapon in close proximity to the aircraft. This method was called the Local Incidence Method. It turned out that the method yields highly satisfactory results in many cases.
