Abstract

Short-term hydroelectric planning aims at providing a production schedule for hydro units in order to match the electric demand, mostly on an hour basis. This document presents the Mixed Integer Linear Programming (M.I.L.P.) based model we developed for the short-term hydroelectric generation at Hydro-Québec. This mathematical model is deterministic, while water inflows and electric demand are extracted from forecasts before the planning process. Even if the selected modelisation destroys many symmetries, integer solutions are difficult to find. Therefore, heuristics based on the root relaxation solution have been developed to help the exploration process.
