Abstract

The lateness and the absence of employees in a company can represent a cost equivalent to 35% of the total amount spent on payroll ( Mercer, 2010). It is therefore fundamental to manage it at best. The subject of this internship is to develop a real-time optimization method to handle work-force schedules following a small perturbation due to the lateness or the absence of an employee. The method should provide the decision maker with schedules rehabilitation choices and assess the costs of these changes taking into account the immediate costs (management costs) and future expected costs (impact of changes on future schedules and remuneration of employees). The method was applied to several scenarios randomly generated. It turned out that this method gave an optimal solution in 93 % of cases.
