Abstract
Intending to replace vapor compression systems with a more efficient technology, elastocaloric cooling is studied. By means of mathematical modeling of this effect, and the analysis of materials that exhibit this phenomenon, a refrigerant evaluation routine is created in EES software and already established prototypes are studied. The study finishes with a case study of this technology in a conventional household refrigerator using an active heat regenerator. Dynamic simulations in Matlab demonstrate the performance and behavior of the system and a comparison between this technology and the currently dominant technology is finally done.
