Abstract
In this work, an adaptive optics system has been designed and implemented at the Lund High-Power Laser Facility of Lund University. The aim of this internship was to evaluate the abilities of a small and rather cheap deformable mirror, a Thorlabs DMP40, to correct the aberrations of a chirped pulse amplification femtosecond laser chain. First, an optimisation algorithm has been implemented in LabVIEW, in order to optimise a laser beam focus by increasing the maximum intensity and decreasing the width of the beam. Then, the algorithm efficiency has been evaluated within a simplified optical setup including the deformable mirror and a CCD camera. The deformable mirror properties have been analysed using this setup. At last, the Thorlabs DMP40 has been implemented into the femtosecond laser chain. We succeeded to correct laser chain aberrations, but we showed that the creep effects of the deformable mirror membrane put limitations to many applications.
