Abstract

Since the works of Munk in 1966 about the recirculation of the Antartic waters, several papers have been published and some theories have been developed. The current and main theory assumes the transport to take place near the bottom of the ocean. This up-welling is supposed to be the consequence of the intensification of diffusive mixing near the bottom, the presence of stratified water and the sloppy bottom of the ocean. This project is one of the few to propose experimental methods and measures. An apparatus replicating the abyssal conditions has been used. The results obtained will be compared with the theoritical expectations so as to propose some corrections to the models.
