Abstract

For 80 years the study of structural bonded joints has made it possible to design mechanical structures without stress concentration. The understanding of material fracture and fatigue is still an issue for the transportation field and industry in general. Analytical models used for engineering give a multitude of information compared to numerical methods which are restricted to particular cases. In this context, this work is focused on the consideration of additional stress applied to the bonded lap joint and aims to supplement the existing literature. The study of Bigwood and Crocombe’s boundary conditions will, besides, provide a refinement of this model.
