Abstract

Studies show that the regulation of cells is dependent on the stresses or strains sensed by the cells. The environment plays an important role in the fate of cell; one of the example is “ curvotaxis “: the more convex the substrate is , the cell is more tensed and stiffer, while in the concave topography, the nucleus stays in a more stable state. Furthermore, the adherent cells avoid convex regions during their migration and position themselves in concave valleys.A numerical model of hMSC cells has been applied to study this phenomenon, and it has been validated by the experiments. Basing on the previous studies, we now consider to study the migration of cell on a dynamic substrate with repetitive topographic patterns. Firstly, a research of bibliography has shown that it’s possible to create a active topography controlled by light using the intelligent materials ’polymer brushes’. Then the simulation has been carried out on a sinusoidal substrate whose phase position change with the time. We observed that the velocity of cell migration varies according to different curvatures. A hypothesis has been made that cell migrates more faster on a topography with larger curvature.
