Abstract

At present, the longitudinal propagation of shock waves in opaque materials can only be visualized by a high-luminosity X-ray method. A new research direction to understand the propagation of a shock wave in solids consists in making this shock wave interact with an acoustic wave. The acoustic wave transmitted through the shock undergoes modifications which seem to reveal information concerning the characteristics of the latter. This report presents theoretical and numerical results of the study of the interaction of a moving shock wave going in the opposite direction to an acoustic wave arriving under oblique incidence. A detailed analysis of all possible modes (acoustic, entropic and vorticity) diverging from this shock will be conducted. The medium studied is a fluid for simplicity. Numerical applications are carried out in the case of water and air and are realized on MATLAB. The case of the weak shock will be specially studied. The influence of the angle of incidence of the acoustic wave interacting with the shock wave and of the surrounding fluid will be particularly emphasized
