Abstract
The development of various activities and applications using radioactivity, ionizing radiation and nuclear reactions, has been accompanied since the first discoveries of irradiation accidents or contamination. During an irradiation accident, the evaluation of the dose and the dose distribution in the organism is necessary to estimate the evolution of the biological effects in order to take quickly and at best adapted medical countermeasures. For these dosimetric assessments, several complementary techniques are employed at IRSN, including Paramagnetic Electron Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy to analyze either biological samples or inert materials worn by the victim. In this study, we used EPR to analyze smartphone screen glass samples of different generations, to explore the possibility of using them as "dose memory carriers", and to further study their "memory performance" and "memory carrier" i.e. radiation-induced defects. First, we collected and prepared samples of Gorilla Glass phone screen glass, which is currently the most common on the market, and verified the possibility of using these samples as dose memory carriers. Second, we studied and discussed the "memory performance" of these samples and used the isochronal annealing to isolate some of these "memory carriers" with the help of Easyspin software. We then compared the results of the analysis with data in the literature to identify these "memory carriers". Finally, we verified the feasibility and good performance of Gorilla Glass phone screen glass as a "dose memory carrier", identified some radiation-induced defects, and developed a complete analysis process.
