Abstract

Quantum backflow is described as a counter-intuitive phenomenon in which particles can at times travel in the direction opposite to their momentum in absence of an external force. This phenomenon can be extended to many types of waves, and is linked to phenomena such as interference and superoscillation. In particular, we study the behavior of electromagnetic waves, and conduct a very simple experiment to observe optical backflow.
