Abstract
Combining carbon emission considerations with lot-sizing problem plays a key role towards an environmentally friendly manufacturing industry. In the context of a research internship at DecisionBrain, this dissertation studies the multi-item multi-site capacitated lot-sizing problems CLS and their environmental impacts by modeling the CLS problem as well as production and transport carbon emission constraints. These constraints consider either total or average carbon emissions. We compare the influence of the different variants of these constraints and find that averaged carbon emissions are most restrictive. We also develop an algorithm to improve the upper and lower bounds of the optimal value of the CLS problem with overall carbon emission constraints of a product. This algorithm provides a better understanding of the necessary assumptions for a smaller upper bound of the optimal value. Finally, we discuss different special cases of the CLS problem with carbon emission constraints in order to analyze the properties of their solutions.
