Abstract
Permafrost is soil that remains frozen for more than two years. This soil contains a large amount of organic carbon. However, global warming causes permafrost thawing, leading to additional carbon release into the atmosphere. During this internship, I optimised and validated a permafrost model (VAMPER) that provides information on soil temperature at depth. I assessed the importance of several parameters of the model by comparing the results on two study sites. I then quantified future permafrost changes at the two sites under different climate scenarios.
